Advanced Quickstep Demonstration, a Ballroom demonstration with Vaughan Liddicoat

The short answer: this is a short demonstration of an advanced Quickstep routine, danced by me and one of my talented dancers, Maddi. It's the routine she uses for her Gold Star medals and ProAm, and it can be used for competition too. It runs for just over a minute, so it's one to watch closely and come back to.

What is in this Quickstep demonstration?

Maddi and I dance her advanced Quickstep routine from start to finish. It's a demonstration rather than a step-by-step lesson, so you get to see how the whole routine flows as one piece of dancing.

Who is this Quickstep routine for?

Maddi uses this routine for her Gold Star medals and for ProAm, and it can be used for competition as well. If you're working towards medals or competitions, it shows you what an advanced Quickstep routine can look like.

How do you get the most from this demonstration?

  1. Watch it all the way through: get a feel for how the routine flows from start to finish.
  2. Watch one section at a time: pause and replay a short section until you can follow it.
  3. Count along: count with the music as you watch each section.
  4. Watch each partner: follow my part first, then watch Maddi's.

Common mistakes

  • Trying to copy an advanced demonstration before the basic Quickstep figures feel comfortable.
  • Trying to take in the whole routine in one go instead of one section at a time.
  • Watching without counting along with the music.

Try this in your next practice

Warm up with a basic Quickstep routine you already know. Then watch this demonstration one section at a time, counting along with the music, and pick one short section to work on.
