Lucille Waltz New Vogue Routine, a New Vogue routine lesson with Vaughan Liddicoat

The short answer: the Lucille Waltz is a more advanced New Vogue sequence dance in waltz time, popular in Australia. In this routine episode my partner and I dance the full Lucille Waltz, then I go through the figure names and the timing, and finish with my tips. Feel free to copy the styling and arms.

What is the Lucille Waltz?

A New Vogue sequence dance in waltz time from Australia. It's one of the more advanced New Vogue dances, and a beautiful one to follow through.

Is the Lucille Waltz for beginners?

It's better suited to dancers who already know the easier New Vogue dances, like the Merrilyn or the Swing Waltz. If you're new to New Vogue, start with one of those and come back to this one.

What's in this Lucille Waltz routine episode?

The video is in four parts:

  1. Demonstration (from 0:53): the full Lucille Waltz, danced through.
  2. Figure names (from 2:22): the names of the figures in the sequence.
  3. Timing (from 3:54): the timing of the sequence.
  4. My tips (from 5:07): on styling and arms, to improve your own Lucille Waltz.

Common mistakes

  • Starting with the Lucille Waltz before you know the easier New Vogue dances.
  • Trying to copy the whole routine in one go instead of learning the figure names, then the timing.
  • Copying the feet only and leaving out the styling and arms.

Try this in your next practice

Watch the demonstration once without dancing. Then use the figure names section to walk the sequence slowly, and dance it again with the timing section. Finish with the tips and add the styling and arms.
